History

 

The Crematorium which is privately owned was officially opened on the 7th August 1976 by the late Sir Basil Arthur.

 

The 2.4 hectares of land was purchased from Mr. Frank Black and the late Jim Stevens in 1966, then in 1967 work started on the building and establishing the grounds.

 

In 1994 fire broke out in the roof of the chapel causing serious damaged which was repaired. The newspaper articles for this event can be viewed by clicking this text.

 

In 2009 a new gas-fired cremator was installed and replaced the original diesel fired cremator
